EOS and Under Armour announced a strategic new partnership at the formnext trade fair in Frankfurt, Germany.

Sharing the same innovative vision to advance commercial 3D printed footwear, the two organizations will jointly work to scale Under Armour’s 3D footwear business through the development of advanced laser sintering technology.

The two organizations will jointly work to scale Under Armour’s 3D footwear business through the development of advanced laser-sintering technology, and leverage EOS’ expertise in industrialized 3D printing (aka additive manufacturing) production.

“With EOS’ industry-leading laser-sintering 3D printing technology, Under Armour can deliver shoes to the marketplace in a meaningful way, creating truly amazing, desirable products that solve customer needs in ways that could have never been imagined before. Together, our two organizations make a formidable pair,” said Clay Dean, Chief Innovations Officer at Under Armour.

Under Armour will use EOS 3D technology to print powder-based parts, and the two companies will work in concert on developing polymer powder and an advanced sintering platform. Under Armour will also collaborate with EOS’ Additive Minds expert services to elevate its additive manufacturing program.

“The shoe fits—this partnership is set to achieve Under Armour’s goal to industrialize and scale 3D printing of performance footwear,” said Glynn Fletcher, President of EOS North America, based in Novi, MI. “True additive manufacturing has come to Under Armour; no other athletic brand can  make this statement.”

To highlight the partnership at formnext, the two companies featured an Under Armour display showcasing UA ArchiTech Futurist footwear, illustrating how the two companies will use their combined expertise to push innovation in the 3D-printed footwear landscape.
